Initiative what?
So I thought that I would be more awake during a night class, and even though I am more awake, sometimes I found myself doing the head nod…you know…you kind of drift off and all of a sudden your eyes close without knowing and your head drops down ever so slightly and then…BOOM, you jerk your head back up because you go “omg I can’t sleep!” yeah. And the only way to save yourself from this is to shake your head around and keep thinking that whatever the lecturer is talking about is interesting! It’s interesting! Yes! It’s interesting! But thank goodness for my teacher yesterday, he started talking about his own political scandals and I broke away from my drifty-ness. Apparently he hired some security guards to watch over polling places to make sure there was no sketchy activity going on, and people said that he was intimidating pollers by hiring uniformed big scary men to watch them while they poll.
Philosophy and World Religion
I went to school today, and this time it was a philosophy and world religion course. It’s actually really fascinating, because I’ve always been interested in religion, what it’s based on, if we really need it, what does it do for people…yeah, it’s interesting, but part of the 3 hour class was boring and I started to lose interest when it got scientific…and then gained interest when we got to a psychological part….and then waned again during the debate on quantum physics and determinism. Then the professor promised that other lectures were not going to be so science driven; thank goodness for that. More psychology I can take, though. Hopefully by the end of the 10 weeks, I’ll be more enlightened on religion…mostly I’m actually really skeptical, but open and respectful. I don’t mind learning a bit of everything, but in the end…I don’t think any of it changes me.
California Politics
I took my first class today….and guess who is my lecturer for my political science class? The mayor of Anaheim! City to the Angels and Disneyland. Apparently, being the mayor of Anaheim is a part-time job and he only gets paid 24,000 a year or something. So he teaches, and also owns his own business. He also ran for lots of stuff for state when he was younger. I kind of forgot what…he talks kind of fast for me because this topic, it takes awhile for things to sink in. Actually when he first mentioned he was mayor of anaheim, I thought I must have heard him wrong. And then he mentioned it again and i was like….wait….what??….what are you doing here?? So confusing. He said he was friends with the mayor of San Fran too or something? The current one? What? I think I need to sit closer to the front. The class is 7-10PM, my first late class. I actually like it, it’s easier for me to stay awake…very natural. In my normal early classes I used to have, it was a struggle, or just a droning on state of alertness. Just awake enough to not be sleepy. I’m pretty much a night person.
