Dislike for Gamestop
I don’t think I’ve ever felt so offended before. I was at a Gamestop, Gamestop #5082 (I dislike you, rhyme intended), browsing around. There were two salesmen in their 20s and a 40-ish year old man with his late teens tall son came walking in. Of course, I eavesdropped.
Man: Hey, um, is there a new Kingdom Hearts III game coming out? And do you know when?
Salesman 1: Ummmmm let me check… <typey typey click click> yeah, the release date is unknown right now…we don’t know yet…
Man: Oh, because I was on the Square site and and it said out in May or something…
Salesman 1: Yeah……..well you know…that might be Japan….
Salesman 2: Yeah…usually it goes, 6 months before, they’ll announce a release date, and then a month before they’ll start rolling the marketing and advertisements…
Man: Do you know what platform it’ll be on…?
Salesman 2: Probably PS3…
Man: Yeah…PS3…
Now, I don’t claim to be all knowing in all things video games, but at this point, I’m brimming with…..well…I’m half excited because someone is talking about Kingdom Hearts, and the other half just wanted to tell them that there is no Kingdom Hearts III at all, and just extended side storylines for the PSP and DS, similar to what Chain of Memories was. So I wanted to wait a little…until I actually needed to say something, because the truth might come out later anyway…
Boy: Yeah, and there was like…another Kingdom Hearts, like…Birth Before Sleep or something…
Man: Oh right! There are like, two games coming out for some reason…
Salesman 2: Oh interesting…so they’re like..splitting up the game or something…
Okay, this is probably the point I should say something right? But timid little Thelnie, not usually one to strike up in conversations with strangers, thought that just once, it might be okay to put my foot down. So I said, in a clear and steady voice that I meant for people to hear…
Me: One game is for the PSP, and the other is for the DS….!
And the four guys just keep talking. No acknowledgment of me at all. The two guys are standing face to face, and I’m literally 5 feet away from them on the side, talking in the direction of at least one ear of each person.
I look around…bewildered…I look through the guys, and see that 2 other guys on the other side of the store, see me and smile…they must have at least heard me…
I decide that maybe the four guys didn’t hear me and at that point they were still conspiring about something.
So I said again, this time, with a tiny bit more umph.
Me: One of the games is for PSP and the other one is for DS!
Still talking. What is that little asian girl yammering about?
I walk out of the store. The door closes.
“Why won’t they listen to me?!”
Angry hands in my coat pocket. Bewildered purse hanging off my wrist. Wind blowing, heavy heart sinking.
And that’s why I go to my older Gamestop. It might be smaller, and more homely, but I’ve always met friendly and knowledgeable people there.
So suck it, Gamestop #5082.
*Note: The two games are: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP) and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (DS). There is also a mobile game, Kingdom Hearts: Coded but I don’t think anyone cares.
My secret to not buying things you want but don’t need
My secret is…take a picture of it! These shoes were very cute, and mostly ones that I would not really reasonably wear, but as I’ve said before, fashion is like art to me so I just take a picture and move along. It’s almost like having it since I wouldn’t wear them often anyway right? So if I ever want to reminisce about the time I wore hooker shoes, I can find the pictures.
But before that, a quick story. Macy’s (or is it Macy*s?) was having a shoe sale. 40% off retail price with an additional 30% off at the register. So these women…oh..I would say they are in their 30s to 40s were shopping around, and they said “oh yeah, and these are 70 percent off!” Being the eavesdropping fiend I am, I snickered. I suppose it’s a common mistake to add up the percentages, but that’s not how you shop.
40 percent off of $100 is $60. 30 percent off of $60 is $42! $42 is clearly not 70 percent off of $100…that would be $30. $42 is still a little more than $30. Anyway, I hope they weren’t counting too closely or they would be in for a surprise at the register. I’m definitely ingraining this into my students’ heads.

Betsey Johnsons. Her style is so kooky, I love it. I’m usually not a fan of wooden clogs, especially if they are weirdly shapen, but these are cute.

I believe these are Guess. Check out that heel! How much for the hour? *wink wink*

Betsey Johnson again. The platform is angled at the heel. These were actually kind of comfortable.

Guess. Walking around in these makes you feel like you could kick everyone’s butts. Or stick a heel in your forehead. I’ve seen that in a movie right?
I suppose this thread is for the foot fetish people out there.
Sex and the City

I’ve only see a couple episodes of the TV series, but I know enough to know who is who. I liked this movie but I have a feeling I would have loved it even more if I had watched every episode. You know when you get attached to characters enough to really feel for them?
For instance, if I watched a Naruto movie without watching and learning the in-depth character build-up of all the characters, I would probably think the movie was crap. Seriously…Naruto movies are pretty dull if you don’t know the characters or the backstory (what are those hand signs? what’s chakra? why does that Naruto kid turn red and look like a fox? what? this three-man team used to have a different kid in it?). This is kind of like that, except the movie was actually good enough that you didn’t need to know them that well and still enjoy it.
I wish I had friends like these that I could reeeeally be comfortable with. And I mean girl friends, because I do have guy friends that I’m comfortable with. It’s not that my girl friends are bad, because they aren’t. They would be totally open if I could just be open enough. So…it’s just my problem I guess. Hard for me to open up to girls. Can you blame me though? Most girls are vindictive, dramatic, calculating, manipulative, and can’t keep a secret. And I say that because I know I can like that too…and I’m a girl. I’m not like that…but I can feel the nature of it in me. I have the thought, but my personality lets it go.
This was supposed to be able the movie right? I’m having a spacey day today.
My favorite girl is Charlotte. She has a pretty perfect life and she probably lives vicariously through her friend’s wild stories. She’s also very cute (personality) and a great friends. The way she is with Carrie breaks my heart. I cried during that car/bouquet/hugging scene (see how I did that? you can’t really tell what I’m talking about if you didn’t watch it. No spoilers here!).
There is a wonderful montage in the film during New Year’s and this song plays in the background. It is absolutely lovely and Auld Lang Syne should always be sung this way from now on. Click to listen…I love it. I’m going to play it all year round.

Wall-E

I saw this movie last Friday. It was amazingly great. I loved it! It’s almost as good as my Pixar favorite, Finding Nemo. Actually, there are so many good Pixar movies that it’s really hard to choose a favorite. I don’t really know why I choose Finding Nemo over the others. Maybe because it’s in the ocean and has a great soundtrack (but so does A Bug’s Life). I love the Finding Nemo ride at Disneyland too! Omg, best new ride Disneyland has had since Indiana Jones. No kid. None of those stupid new dark rides they have now with no ingenuity. If I want to ride a dark ride, I’ll go on a classic, not one about hollywood with cardboard cut-outs.
Anyhow…this wasn’t meant to be a rant about Disneyland. hehe.
This movie makes you love older technology and drool over new technology as well. Wall-E is a loveable machine that brings a new perspective about the things we take for granted around us. Wall-E’s love, EVE, is a spicy character, reminiscent of Angelina Jolie. The movie has a message, maybe two or three, about wastefulness, love, and the growing inability to tear our eyes away from our glowing lcd screens.
Oh, and this movie made me cry. You know a movie is good when it makes me cry!
