Ukulele!

I’ve wanted one before but I wasn’t serious about it until I saw this being sold really cheap. So I though…why not? The chords are relatively easy to remember and since my music theory is pretty good, I’ve figure out how the chords work and why the chords look like the way they do (in the tab form).

It dawned on me that tabs are just the easy solution to play music, and for people that don’t want to learn it the “real” way. When I play chords on the piano or cello, each note is written out and having memorized all the notes, I can play them all together. Tabs are circles! Circles on lines for you to follow, you don’t learn how or why, you just memorize them with its chord name. Sorry if I’ve offended you.

Anyhow, it is hard right now learning all the chords and stuff…but so far I’ve gotten down G, D, C, A7…and sometimes I forget E, F#, and B. Mainly because the songs I learned used those chords. The best song I can sing is Kumbaya right now…though I tried some Christmas songs that were pretty easy.

Anyhow, I was introduced to this guy, Jake Shimabukuro who plays the Ukulele like crazy…..

Here he is playing “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by George Harrison. When he plays the part that goes “I don’t know whyyyyyyy, nobody told you…” I want to fall over. I can fall for any guy that plays like this. How long, though, I can’t be for sure.

m-flo loves Namie Amuro

ah…. m-flo
Probably the best hip-hop in Japanese music. I think I was introduced to them with m-flo loves melody’s “Miss You”. Anyhow, they have a lot of “featured” artists and instead of using “feat.”, they use “loves”, which is nice because they feature a lot of artists. In particular, I’m stuck on this song recently and I’d like to share it! It starts out pretty normal…and then the chorus part sounds a lot like some kind of traditional Taiko rhythm which sounds genius to me. It’s stuff like this in music that really gets to me.

This is from the m-flo tour where Namie popped out to sing with them. She’s amazing..well…not really….but she’s timeless…I love her too.

So, here it is, m-flo loves Namie Amuro- Luvotomy. If you are smart, you may be able to snatch this song from me.

Generation O!

1

Here is a post about an underrated cartoon on the WB that ran for maybe half a season or something. Does anyone remember the cartoon Generation O!? It’s about a girl who sing in a band and she has an annoying brother and if I remember correctly, she had a really cool publicist or bodyguard…something. It’s blurry in my mind, but the part I liked about it was the weird and random music that she sang. She would sing stuff about getting pierced ears, or how embarrassed she was for wetting her bed. The singer that sang for her is actually the lead singer for the band, Letters to Cleo. You might remember them from some songs in the soundtrack for 10 Things I Hate About You.

Anyhow, I liked her songs because she sang them with so much vigor, and the singer’s voice is really unique…it’s totally like a kid, but better and not so sweet. Here is an example.

Check out the short lyrics for this song, All Right:

Don’t want to be all sensitive
But I know more the more I live
Sometimes I don’t know where I stand
It takes an eagle eye and a steady hand
When even a stupid telephone commercial
Can give me a tear
What does that mean?
I have no idea

Alright Alright
It’s alright
The barks always worse than the bite
And there’s no need to be all uptight
When everythings gonna be, gonna be alright

I especially like the part where she cries for a telephone commercial, and then she’s like “What does that mean?!?! I have no idea”. So candid.

And yes, I know the cartoon sucked overall, but I miss hearing her little songs. Unfortunately, at the time, I was only able to download this one song and on the official site, the songs are all in real player format and I’m not motivated enough to convert them.

Ai Otsuka- Love Piece

Ai Otsuka- Love Piece

I’ve always liked Ai Otsuka. You may know her as singing the theme song, Planetarium, for Hana Yori Dango I, the Japanese version. She had a new album out recently and I was just able to….get my….hands…on it….yes. Anyway, I like this album better than her others, there are more normal songs to like…since her trademark is having those really wacky crazy songs that make you feel like you’re 7 years old. One of her songs were…3 Minute Ramen or something…Her ballads are the ones that make her though. From this album, I like “Renai Shashiin”.
