Dislike for Gamestop

2

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so offended before. I was at a Gamestop, Gamestop #5082 (I dislike you, rhyme intended), browsing around. There were two salesmen in their 20s and a 40-ish year old man with his late teens tall son came walking in. Of course, I eavesdropped.

Man: Hey, um, is there a new Kingdom Hearts III game coming out? And do you know when?

Salesman 1: Ummmmm let me check… <typey typey click click> yeah, the release date is unknown right now…we don’t know yet…

Man: Oh, because I was on the Square site and and it said out in May or something…

Salesman 1: Yeah……..well you know…that might be Japan….

Salesman 2: Yeah…usually it goes, 6 months before, they’ll announce a release date, and then a month before they’ll start rolling the marketing and advertisements…

Man: Do you know what platform it’ll be on…?

Salesman 2: Probably PS3…

Man: Yeah…PS3…

Now, I don’t claim to be all knowing in all things video games, but at this point, I’m brimming with…..well…I’m half excited because someone is talking about Kingdom Hearts, and the other half just wanted to tell them that there is no Kingdom Hearts III at all, and just extended side storylines for the PSP and DS, similar to what Chain of Memories was. So I wanted to wait a little…until I actually needed to say something, because the truth might come out later anyway…

Boy: Yeah, and there was like…another Kingdom Hearts, like…Birth Before Sleep or something…

Man: Oh right! There are like, two games coming out for some reason…

Salesman 2: Oh interesting…so they’re like..splitting up the game or something…

Okay, this is probably the point I should say something right? But timid little Thelnie, not usually one to strike up in conversations with strangers, thought that just once, it might be okay to put my foot down. So I said, in a clear and steady voice that I meant for people to hear…

Me: One game is for the PSP, and the other is for the DS….!

And the four guys just keep talking. No acknowledgment of me at all. The two guys are standing face to face, and I’m literally 5 feet away from them on the side, talking in the direction of at least one ear of each person.

I look around…bewildered…I look through the guys, and see that 2 other guys on the other side of the store, see me and smile…they must have at least heard me…

I decide that maybe the four guys didn’t hear me and at that point they were still conspiring about something.

So I said again, this time, with a tiny bit more umph.

Me: One of the games is for PSP and the other one is for DS!

Still talking. What is that little asian girl yammering about?

I walk out of the store. The door closes.

“Why won’t they listen to me?!”

Angry hands in my coat pocket. Bewildered purse hanging off my wrist. Wind blowing, heavy heart sinking.

And that’s why I go to my older Gamestop. It might be smaller, and more homely, but I’ve always met friendly and knowledgeable people there.

So suck it, Gamestop #5082.

*Note: The two games are: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP) and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (DS). There is also a mobile game, Kingdom Hearts: Coded but I don’t think anyone cares.

Sims Apartments

The best thing I love about Sims, as I’ve written before, is building homes. With apartments, you can build apartment homes!

Here is the front! I like the columns. It’s really too bad I can’t take pictures from building mode anymore, since I have a family moved into the penthouse, but the furniture I chose for all the homes are really luxurious. If you live on the third floor, the rooms are smaller but the furniture is better. Originally I had three homes on each side…those rooms were like…Japan tiny.

Start at the top! This is the left side of the building and open to all tenets from the recreation room two stories down. There is a bar at the bottom left corner, and lots of seats and a bubble maker (that is actually like a hookah).

This is actually the middle of the fourth floor. The elevators go up to the fourth floor, but the main door to the penthouse is right in front of the elevators, so guests have to ring the doorbell right at the elevators. I like the outdoor reclining chairs with the bookcase in the middle. The left door goes to the penthouse party room, and the right door goes to actual living space.

This is the top of the right side of the building. This floor is only available to my family that lives in the penthouse. See the stairs! Outdoor rooftop onsen > <. Gaaah. I need more decor here @_@. Plants…

The fourth floor with the walls up. The room is actually a backwards C. The space you see in the middle of the C is a balcony to the rec room. Imagine walking out and seeing the large windows and the rec room! All the railings are glass and you can go to the rooftop using the spiral stairs. This party side of the room has a bowling ball strip, disco floor, and a karaoke machine you can’t see at the top. Also a candy vending machine, (the bright green). And a bar.

Here it is with the walls down. The black and white tile flooring is the balcony.

The living space. Japanese style walls. Every room is an individually separated room. Wood floor hallways and tatami flooring in the rooms. The doors also slide. The little room in the middle is the tea room with only two walls so it is open to the third floor. Imagine being in the tea room and being able to see the third floor, the kitchen, like a loft. The spiral stairs to the third floor are right next to the main door, in that little room. I had to make it a room because those stairs go directly to the roof, and if I didn’t put the stairs in the little room, the whole floor would be freezing in the winter.

This is with the walls down. See the open space near the large windows? Loooove it. I looove lofts. The rightmost room is a sauna.

This is the third floor. See how the pent house goes down to the third floor, but only in the middle, and is occupied by other tenants on both sides. There is also no door to the third floor of the penthouse on the third floor, but there are for the other two apartment homes.

I also love this kitchen > <. Shiny stainless steel.

This is the recreational room available to all tenants. The door to here is just an open archway. Treadmills, weight lift machine, cycling, pool table, darts, and jacuzzi. Spiral staircase on the corner to go to the balcony or the rooftop. This rec room is also in between two apartment homes.

There are two elevators and also two spiral staircases, one on each side of the elevators.

View of the kitchen and the rec room.

I’d love to hang around here > <.

Second floor. Two homes on each side.

First floor walls up. I like the giant knight in the lobby @_@.

Walls down.

The outside park area. Soccer, basketball, lucky shrine, pool…

Kids big toy, and pond that is frozen over because it’s winter.

And if you still don’t really understand the pictures, here is a quick video.

WoW is everywhere

Today I wore my BlizzCon08 shirt to work today, over a long sleeved shirt. I got through the first class without incident, and I went up to the teacher and he said

Mr. S: By the way, Mrs. M (the other teacher I work under), her husband plays that game. He gets together with friends and they like…play. WoW right?

Me: Oh! Yeah. Does she play too?

Mr. S: Nooooo noooo…she…..she hates it. It’s the bane of her existence.

Me: Ooooh haha…I know how she feels…

Later on, in the second class, this kid goes

Kid: OMG you went to BlizzCon too?! What, what do you have?

Me: oh…..<sheepish> a priest…

Kid: I’m Undead Warlock! Dude! <calls out to other kid> She plays WoW!

Other kid: What?

<unintelligible shoutings back and forth of I don’t know what but it had something to do with the armory…and the fact that Kid1 was still level 72, and he was denying it…>

Then, I went to Mrs. M’s class

Mrs. M: Do you play World of Warcraft?……

Me: Yes…

Mrs. M: I’m a WoW widow…….okay???? It’s…..it’s just….wow. I catch him sneaking around to play that game…he gets together with his friends, because they work at Blizzard…

Me: >_<

Girl: ooh my brother plays too, he used to play Everquest also…

I think if you got all the WoW players together, they would be a small country…like Sweden or something. That might have changed since last year by now though. A little bigger. Soon, nobody will do anything but play in the alternate reality of WoW. Raiding is a full-time job and we’ll be fed by tubes in our chairs. And conflicts between countries will be resolved by 5-man arenas.

Blizzcon 2008 Part 2- Pictures

1

I finally got my camera back and so I can upload the pictures. Yaaay pictures!

The front of the Anaheim Convention Center. BlizzCon wooo. If you look closely you can see my hunter’s mark on the bottom left corner. We were 20 minutes early, but parking made us late. There was a huge line and we had to circle in a line all the way around and up top to parking spaces that weren’t really parking spaces, but everyone parked there anyway.

Some of the banners up top.

We watched Fnatic vs. Made in Taiwan. I was partial to Made in Taiwan because…well…gotta represent! But Fnatic had an asian girl on their team…I felt like how I do at an Angels vs. Yankees game. Taiwan lost though…it’s okay! I’m sure they were happy to be here. They all had team jackets with “Taiwan” in the noticeable public-relations-tourism-graphic font they like to use.

Frostmourne, yours for $400 bucks. The price is going to be raised near the holidays too. Arena winners and the costume contest winners receive one of these. Nihilum won the arena tournament…they are a EU team. I wonder how they are going to get this 16 pound ish sword onto the plane…

Got a croissant during lunch so I could snack on it later in the afternoon. When I think or see a croissant, I think of Burgle and Arloma. Cwaaasooooon.

Mograine and Whiteman. Rise, my Champion!

Kerrigan. She almost makes zerg hot. But they are still gross.

I didn’t see these get used very much. I did take a picture with it but I don’t have it on me yet.

Ooing and awwing.

mMmMmm…..glowy monitors…..not many people on beta since many people were on wotlk beta already for months.

People playing the World of Warcraft card game. I have a deck. Played it about four times. The instructions are confusing.

This was the mini-game created by J!nx. You choose a class and you get as many balls and special balls according to your class, and you throw them, either a head shot or in the chest. The interesting part are the special balls. If you get them in, they are either a crit, or it means it’s a greater heal (for priests) and you subtract 2 balls from your opponent…or other specials that make sense for the class. You compete with the team next to you and you move on for prizes. I got in 1 out of 10…it is harder than it looks.

Arts.

This guy was dressed up as a pimp orc and walked around with a swagger and a cane. I only caught the back of him <: (.

Drool.

Slurp.

New for Diablo 3.

She reminds me of Padme

There is the throne and people could wait in line to pose up there with the helm and the frostmourne. I never got around to waiting for this.

Yes, that is what it looks like.

Scary….

Another picture of a mass of people.

The Diablo 3 section. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could play a 40 man raid like this? All together in one room?
