Today at work, we had a guest speaker who was..oh…mid-20s, and he was cute. He was totally caucasian, and tall….and you know…usually I’m not immediately attracted to white guys, but for some reason I felt like he might be interesting. He was the teacher that I work with’s cousin-in-law, and long story short, the teacher mentioned he was a programmer…and the guy called himself an engineer at one point.
Ooh…so that just makes so much more sense to me. He must have been exuding his nerdy tech tendencies that I seem to be drawn to. But he looked like a regular cool guy too…..baseball cap, converse, blue jeans, button up collared shirt. I don’t know.
Anyway, so I thought about this…and I decided I should made one of those survey things…because I actually use it a lot when I talk about just one thing, but I’ve never put them together. I’d say like “oh, a suit is +10″ or “turtleneck is +10″…but I never really added up the points.
And this isn’t just for significant others…it’s just a general “who I like to be with and find interesting” because I like to meet and get to know people (male and female) like this.
These are ordinal. If you have no clue what that is, -5 to your brains.
Brains: + x/25
- Intelligence in his area of interest and general knowledge. Another +5 if in the area of computer or internet systems.
Affection: +x/18
- He should be able to show that he cares for me in ways I would be able to see. I like to think I’m low maintenance and sometimes I am…but honestly I could be high maintenance when I’m not thinking straight. Who doesn’t like to feel loved anyway?
Personality: +x/15
- A combination of charm, wit, humor, and manliness.
Security: +x/13
- This only applies for marriage material consideration, not friends. Like…thinking waaaaaaaaaaay ahead. It is still here, though, because it is important. I forgot the stat number for this, so I’ll just say “a lot” of marriages fail because of problems that stem from financial issues. I think that if a guy has a high number in brains, then this number shouldn’t be a huge issue. But there are those highly intelligent guys working in 3rd world countries for very worthy causes. It’s very noble.
Appearance: +x/12
- This varies and is influenced by other factors because “love is blind”. Probably the hardest for me because my judgment is often impaired by influence of other factors. +5 if the guy is of Keanu Reeves/Takeshi Kaneshiro/Brad Pitt calibre. But not tooooo hot because that makes me nervous.
Hobbies: +x/10
- He should probably have the same hobbies as me, so I don’t feel guilty if I neglect him because I’m “doing my own thing” or not let me buy gadgets because he doesn’t get excited about them like I do. Interested in knitting, baking, singing in the shower…jK. +5 if he has a history in gaming. That’s video, not animals.
Tolerance: +x/5
- Ignorance is a no-no. There are so many different kinds of people, cultures, and ideas jumping around us that it is impossible to be an objective and reasonable adult if they are ignorant. +2 for loving to travel.
Curiosity: +x/2
- General competence to find out information and self desire to know things and learn.
So that is the base number!
These are bonuses, and some of these are temporary bonuses, because we can’t all be like Steve Jobs and wear a turtleneck all the time. They are more like…things that make me go “!”
Looking good in a suit: +4
Uniformed: +4 (Military, Governmental, Public Services…not Hot Dog on a Stand)
Looking good in a turtleneck: +2
Nice broad shoulders: +2 (don’t ask)
Good with kids: +2 (talking with little kids, acting big brotherly)
Good sense of style: +5 (fitted shirts to show of his amazing body(teehee), converse or vans kind of thing…umm…takes note from a GQ magazine)
Mandarin Chinese speaking: +10 (only +5 if you have an intolerable mainland accent)
And these are the negates:
Acts like a major FOB from mainland China or Taiwan: -10 (I don’t care how long or how little it has been since you crossed the ocean)
Parents are from mainland China: -5 (might change when I actually meet and get to know them)
Bad personalities: -10 (victims of self-righteousness, talking but not walking, overt laziness, lack of life…)
So, after playing with the numbers a bit…I came up with…a minimum base number of 88. And I did feel a little hypocritical, because I don’t think I would get a score of 88. But, I’m not looking for someone just like me. If I did, nothing would get done and we would both be floaty. Do I even deserve an 88 person? bleh.
I just stumbled onto your blog b/c ure YouTube vid of Coldplay. Really funny post here. Hahaha, I should try it too.
