Subject matters clash!

Teaching today and something stuck me. In fact, about 3 things strike me every day I teach, but I tend to forget them. This one I still remember because it is most recent.

Kid: Can you help us on this question?

Me: Sure! <reads it over. It is a word problem involving velocity, time it took, and asks for how long the distance was>. Okay, so, you use this equation. V=D/T. Do you guys know your algebra yet?

Kid: This is science.

Me: ….uh…..okay but, do you know your algebra? What math are you taking right now?

Kid: But this is science. It’s from science class. We’re learning about velocity.

Me: ….right….but…this is math. You have to know the math to do this problem. We’re using algebra to find the missing variable, D, the distance the train traveled.

Kid: ….oooh……           …

Yeah…I’m not sure why the kid thought that you didn’t need to know math for a science question.

Whelps

You know how people say “well….” and then people say “wellps….” Well, I just realized how much “wellps” sounds like “whelps” and instantly thought of Onyxia. If there’s a place where you fear whelps the most, or being punted into the whelp room, it’s Onyxia. Though it was pretty frightening doing UBRS the first few times. And the supression room in BWL is kind of annoying. Man, I almost forgot what BWL’s name was. It’s been thaaaaaat long.

Whelps, I’ve been at work again at the schools. So far no cute or funny stories. I went to a high school that I hadn’t been to last year, and saw some of my eighth graders that had gone up to ninth grade. They would be like, “Hey! I know you!” And the teachers are always have a thankful look when I walk in the room and would be like “omg thank goodness you are here. We’ve been waiting for you!” Maybe all teachers should get a tutor. Or just get paid more.

It’s raining today. Sporadically. I love going to schools when it rains. Rain just makes everything more interesting.

Sigh…

“It’s amazing. I can’t even think of a word to say about that,” Molina said after the game. “I don’t have much to say, it’s just great. I think everyone wanted to hit the last one here. I wasn’t trying at all. You guys know I don’t hit a lot of homers.”

Oh you…stop rubbing it in. <: P

Angels vs. Mariners and a ML Record

1

I went to an Angels game last week. Blizzard was having a company picnic of sorts and my friend invited me to go. Yay free food! The asian inside of me is pleased.

Not only were our Angels (because the stadium announcer always says they are mine, so they are mine…ours) playing against the Mariners (Ichiro!) but Francisco Rodriguez was set on breaking the record for most saves in a season. Wooo.

Sorry about the sun. I told him to go away for a bit but he just wouldn’t listen.

A little better? There weren’t that many people in the beginning. Still about 10 minutes to go.

Ichiro throwing the ball.

Yeah, there was a security guard there between innings. Why? Does he think people are going to rush over to pants Ichiro? I wonder what he would say anyway “I am happy to have this opportunity. Not many baseball players get pants-ed. The stars have aligned. It is very special.” That’s so Ichiro.

Sigh…what am I doing here in this Angels stadium again? Just make it go away…

The peanut gallery. Actually they cheered for the Angels quite loudly. And then yelled Ichiro’s name a couple times. “Seeeeeeee no, Ichiro!!”

He was always doing something. Stretching, rolling out his ankles, squatting…

And the crowd went wild when he ran out of the bullpen. Standing up, waving arms. Every time he didn’t get a strike, the crowd went “aww…..” and when he did “yeeeeeeah!! Frankie!!”.

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

Heh….The only substantial video I have was when he pitched against Ichiro and he got a hit. Whoops.
